Joaquin Phoenix Weird Behavior on David Letterman
Did any of you see David Letterman last night? If you did then you were treated to perhaps the most bizzarre behavior of a celebrity on a talk show ever! The Unabomber, i mean…Joaquin Phoenix was on with Dave and let me tell you…B-I-Z-A-R-R-E. The guy walks out in dark sunglasses and a heavy beard looking nothing like the Mr. Phoenix that well know and love.
Joaquin was DEFINITELY on some kind of drug. He was barely coherent throughout the whole interview and seemed disinterested on being on the show. I look forward to finding out exactly WHAT the guy was on. Maybe had an overdose of Vicodin? Who knows. Well David Letterman, being the witty comedian that he is, very soon realized what mental state Joaquin was in and quickly started with the verbal jabs. Here’s my favorites:
David Letterman: “ummm…what can you tell us about your days with the Unabomber”
David Letterman: “So why have you given up acting?”
Joaquin Phoenix: “Mmm…I don’t know”
David Letterman: ” I can see that you’ve given it some thought”
And to top it off at the end of the interview he quips, “and Joaquin i’m sorry you couldn’t be here tonight”. hahahaha. Man the WHOLE interview was just one big ball of awkwardness. Hopefully Mr. Phoenix drops into the nearest rehab center soon cuz he definitely needs it!

So what do you guys and gals think? Was it a HOAX for publicity, has he mentally fallen off the deep end, or is he just on drugs and in need of rehab?
Umm it’s a HOAX. He is playing a part in a Documentary.
oh man… he’s definately on something… not the Joaquin I remember.. AT ALL!
It was all a scam. At the very end did you see Joaquin take off his glasses and shake Dave’s hand, he was apologizing for putting Dave through the farce.
I think it’s sad. Phoenix was so moving so much. Phoenix is on some junk. It was sad to watch. Letterman gave him no mercy, which is sort of funny. I guess Letterman had to make the most out of this busted interview. Phoenix looks a mess and hopefully this is a stunt. whatever Phoenix deal is, he’ll never be able to live this interview down.
ah good catch Patrick! it does indeed look like he is back to “normal” at the very end of the clip. perhaps this was a hoax after all for his documentary. good detective work!
it’s hard to tell whether Joaquin Phoenix was faking it or not during that Letterman appearance, especially since he’s such a talented actor…
