Hello Eileen’s 2009 Christmas List

Christmas is a financially tricky time of year for most people, with the obligatory shopping and all. This is especially true when said people tend to keep the “presents” for themselves instead of actually giving them away.  This means not only did you spend a bundle that was originally (and justifiably) withdrawn from the gift fund, but now you’re pretty much screwed with no money and no presents for the children.

In the spirit of mass consumption, I like to compile and indulge in my annual Christmas Wishlist – sort of a yearly reward to myself for not ceasing to exist for the last 365 days. Really though, it’s little more than a thinly disguised means to rationalize spending on things I want absolutely need. So onward we go:

Hello Eileen’s 2009 Christmas List

Wii New Super Mario Brothers

This game looks freaking awesome. 4 players at a time? It’s like Gauntlet, but with Mario and super cute Toadstool! I remember playing Mario back in the day with my state of the art 8bit Nintendo gaming platform and thinking it was the best game ever created! Evidently, this still holds true today. Of course, to cross this item off the list will force me to get…

Wii Console

As attractive as exercising and jumping around like a maniac for leisure may seem, I’ve never really had the incentive to pick up one of these. Call me old fashioned, but I like my gaming the traditional way: sitting on my ass while developing carpal tunnel syndrome. I suppose it would be possible to steal the one I got for my pops for Father’s Day…it’s quite forlorn and literally collecting dust sitting atop the elaborate karaoke system. I doubt he will even notice.

Snuggie

Can you believe these suckers are actually SOLD OUT in Target stores and online?? I laughed at my sister when she bought the camel colored one, but after trying it out for myself, I’m officially hooked. It’s soft, warm, cozy, and well….snug! It’s comparable to wearing my boyfriend’s huge plush robe, except when I wear my (soon to be acquired) Snuggie, no one will yell and tell me to give it back.

Philips Sonicare Toothbrush

When one approaches the “middle aged” milestone, it’s important to turn to the benefits of excellent dental hygiene. Think about it…you lose just one of your teeth and it is gone forever. Denture-ville is only a few rest stops away, so now is the time for due diligence in preventative oral care. While I’m not exactly sure what the Sonic entails in the “Sonicare”,  it claims to be patent pending so I assume it’s something special. Which means I know I definitely want it.

A Good Winter Coat

Apparently, l’hiver en Paris gets very chilly so most of my cute California faux coats will not do.  All the poor excuses for warm outerwear peddled in shops around here are thinner than an Egyptian cotton bath towel. Pathetic!

Vogue Couturier Vintage Patterns

Sewing is a new hobby, even though I am terrible at it. It took me 3 hours to set in a zipper straight, and I haven’t even ventured into sleeves and buttons. However, I’m beginning to find that I enjoy searching and buying vintage clothing patterns loads better than the actual cumbersome task of sewing itself. Seriously, why would anyone spend hours on end to create a garment when you can simply go out and buy one?? Mind boggling.  Anyway, a pattern like this runs about $150 which is just insane seeing how you only get a few crumpled pieces of cut out tissue. There’s still hours of work and expertise needed to complete a finished product. And I thought hobbies were supposed to be fun.

Radokri Top Hat Hair piece

I’m wearing this at a jaunty angle for New Years Eve. Now, I just need to work my entire outfit around it. Oh, and find somewhere to go.

I can’t wait to get into the Christmas spirit of generosity and giving! Happy Holidays~!
