Imagine this. You just got back home from whatever sale you were at (Marshalls, Ross, Outlet Sale, Sample Sale, etc) and you have a new pair of jeans in tow. I think I can safely say that a good pair of jeans are almost a man’s best friend. And don’t think I’m making fun of you for buying jeans at a sale. Any dude who pays full price for a pair of jeans is total D-BAG material in my book. Seeing as most of the Asian men out there are of the shorter variety, it is very difficult to find a good pair of jeans off the rack that fit perfectly.
Having said that, every guy must get to know a good tailor who will fit those jeans to your exact height. Now if you’re an anal mofo like me, the LAST thing you want to do is take your precious expensive jeans to a tailor who has the potential to hack it up and make it too short for your height. Then you’ll be walking around looking like you’re getting ready for the next great flood. I can speak from experience. I remember back in the college days when I “splurged” and bought a pair of Pepe Jeans. Yah, I know, Pepe Jeans. Those were cool like never. Anyway, the point is, I had paid a pretty college budget penny for those jeans and I wanted them to fit just right. This was my first ever pair of jeans that I was actually going to have hemmed so I was very hesitant to leave them with this unknown tailor. My worst fears were realized when I picked them up and tried them on. They looked sort of like this:

Ok well maybe not THAT bad but there went my $50 down the drain. I was so emotionally scarred by that wasted money that I kept those jeans in my closet for the next 5 years. Never wore them out once but didn’t want to just throw them away. Anyhow, for a long time after that, I refused to let anybody touch my jeans and consequently had jeans that were too long and ill fitting. Recently my scars have healed enough to let me take jeans to get fitted again and Voila, I have jeans that fit me perfectly now! So enough of my boring anecdotes. WHERE can I get my jeans tailored you ask? Well friends I have TWO options for you. I’ve personally been to both tailors and both have done a great job at a decent price.
Option 1: Nha May Van Quan Tailor (3106 San Gabriel Blvd # C Rosemead, CA 91770)
Ok after you get finished laughing at the name (I did for like 10 minutes)……(well maybe it’s just funny if you’re not Vietnamese…ok enough talking in quotes), this is for all you EASTSIDE folks (Alhambra, Monterey Park, San Gabriel, Rosemead, etc). The guy does a great job. First he will have you try on the jeans. Make sure to bring the shoes that you will be wearing with the jeans! Then he’ll quickly chalk and pin both sides and you’re done. In and out in 5 minutes. For a little extra, he gives you the option of keeping the original hem. This is important if you really want that “wow these jeans fit me PERFECTLY off the rack” look. I think he charges around $10-$15. Looking good has its costs (unless you are Brad F’ing Pitt) Pickup is around a week and you’re ready to rock the club in your new threads.
Option 2: Rancho Tailor & Cleaners (2456 Overland Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90064)
Ok after you get finished laughing at the name (I did for like 10 minutes)……(well maybe it’s just funny if you’re not Mexican…ok enough talking in quotes). But seriously, who names their tailor RANCHO? That sounds kind of like Raunchy. When somebody says Rancho, I think of a Mexican market. But alas, I am getting off topic again. So this is the spot for all you WESTSIDERS (West LA, Santa Monica, Westwood, Mid City). I didn’t feel like making the trek to see Van Quan so I left it up to trusty Yelp.com to help me find a tailor in my area. Rancho did not disappoint! Ask for Arturo as he is the main man. Same deal, you’re in and out in 5 minutes. Regular hem is around $6 and original hem is $12 so it’s a pretty good deal. Apparently the artist formerly known as PRINCE gets his stuff tailored here too so it must be decent right? Chahlee Murpheeee!
So those are my two recommendations. If you choose NOT to use these tailors, I suggest doing a little research before you take in your babies to get chopped. Trust me, not all tailors are cut from the same cloth. You like that one? I amaze myself sometimes. Bye!

Why do YOU need your jeans hemmed? Encountering a 6′+ Asian man is almost as rare as unicorns.
