Coming to America – BOA

13 February 2009 2 Comments

Lately, it seems like a lot of the Korean artist have been trying to make their way and break into the American Music Industry/Market in the states.  A few months back, Korean-pop artist Seven tried to crack the market and even before that Rain (the suppose Korean-Usher) tried his hand in headlining a performance at the Staple Center.  That event was cancelled due to “technical difficulties – translation difficulty in selling tickets.”

Coming March of 2009, the Wonder Girls will be visiting LA and NY to perform.

Last but definitely not least, BOA will also be making her debut in the states with her new US album available in store March 17th, 2009 (or download you cheap bastards).  It’s clear that she has an up hill battle given the previous failures of her fellow peers and in addition, given the economic turmoil that this country is sinking into not to mention the crippling music industry she has an enormous challenge at hand.  Then again, at the age of a grisly 22, she’s a veteran in the music industry.  This very talented tri-lingual girl (Japanese, Korean, and English) might possibly have something else that none of these performers have…commercial girly appeal reminiscent of Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, etc. as evident in this recent interview by Nylon Magazine.

I was thinking that BOA might have more of a chance at success than the male counterparts because she’s got a pair of tits. To be a success in the good ol’ U.S. of A, you have to be able to cross over into more ethnicity than just your own. i.e. Chinese, Japanese, Viet, and other Asian ethnicities have to want to rock you on their ipods. Cause BOA’s a chick and a hot one at that, guys of other races won’t be embarrassed having her on their playlists. I think having an album cover on my computer of Seven with his shirt off would be hard to explain. And with how acceptable lesbianism is now, non-Korean girls wouldn’t think twice of checking out and rocking the hot BOA. But then I remembered how many female HK and Taiwanese artists tried to cross over and have yet to succeed. She might speak engrish but until BoA does song in “American” she’s not gonna make it on these shores.

Good point! Having BoA on your work cubicle is more acceptable than having Seven. LOL Besides, I can see her company possibly paying some hip hop artist to do a collaboration while she sings the generic hip hop hook like the likes of Fabulous, the GAME, the ubiquitous lil Wayne…possibly even a Chris Brown duet…LOL.
