Beijing Olympics Week 1 – JSAKA

14 August 2008 No Comment

So it’s the end of Day 6 of the Olympics and it’s been GREAT!  I loooooove watching everything.  This goes back to the 1984 Olympics in LA where I saved every Olympics section of the newspaper for the whole 2 weeks.  Anybody remember Sam the Olympic Eagle (or is it just us old folks)?  hahaha.

Sam Olympic Eagle

Anyway, I’ve been staying up till 4 in the morning every day watching just the most random shiet.  Brazil vs Lithuania handball anybody?  Here’s my random thoughts from the first 6 days:

Opening Ceremonies -  One word….SICK.  From the very opening with the 1,000 man Chinese drumming crew, you could see right away that this was going to be one GREAT Olympics opening ceremony.  The sea of drummers looked hella intimidating.

 Chinese Olympic Drummers

I bet every redneck in the South was quaking in his boots (while sitting in their mobile home) when they were greeted with the sight of that many Chinese dudes with fake smiles on their faces.  hahaha.  And that sweet angelic girl singing the Chinese national anthem?  Yah she lip synched it.  Pulled an Ashlee Simpson on us.  hahaha.

Chinese Lip Synching

Apparently the REAL singer’s teeth were too wonky and her face too fat to be the “face” of Chinese children.   Ummm..yah good call.  Her teeth reminded me of someone…hmmm…..oh yah, this guy…

But yah…major props to China.  I was almost late to Cabana Club that night because I was so mesmerized by the ceremonies.  I guess it was a $100 million dollars well spent.  It just goes to show you…Asians do EVERYTHING better.  Hah!

Spanish Basketball Team Racists – So yah…check out this photo:

Spain Basketball Racists

Yup that’s the whole Spanish basketball team doing their “chinese eyes” impression.  My only reaction is WHAT THE F*CK.  Like seriously.  Actually I’m not really surprised.  I visited Spain back in 2001 and that place is IGNORANT.  Like inbread Kentucky brother has sex with his sister kind ignorant.  They just have no clue.  They apparently thought it was a “gesture of endearment” to the Chinese people.  hahahaha.  It’s just funny how ridiculous that sounds.  Another gem of a quote: “It’s just because we are coming to Beijing, we have this kind of eyes.”  Like seriously…..I feel like i’m in some bizzaro world.  Are they THAT dumb?  You would tihnk PAU Gasol would have better sense than that (living in LA) but I guess not.  I think instead of trying to DEFEND themselves, the players should just admit it was a BIG mistake and APOLOGIZE for it.

Gymnastics – Man what an UGLY 2 days of gymnastics.  People just falling everywhere (men and women).  First yesterday, we saw Alicia Sacramone just CRACK.  First she messed up on the vault and then she fell on her butt during the floor exercise.

Alicia Sacramone

Quite a sad moment to see.  I mean if I was in that situation, I woulda totally f*cked up.  What an incredible amount of pressure they must have on their shoulders.  The weight of the country and her teammates was just too much to bear.  She’ll be ok though.  She goes to BROWN for god sakes.  Charmed life (except for this small bump in the road)….plus she’s cute.  hahaha.  And then there’s the Chinese girls.  Man they looked like TEN years old.  WTH?

Chinese Gymnasts

The minimum age to compete is 16.  I know Asians look young and all but these girls were NOT 16.  No way.  The American gymnasts looked like old women compared to the Chinese gymnasts.  And it was COMICAL how the little Chinese girls tried to wear all the heavy makeup to look older but ended up just looking ridiculous.

Then TODAY with the dudes…..falling all over the place.  I’ve never seen so many gymnasts mess up.  It’s almost like a domino effect.  Once one guy messes up, it gets in the heads of everybody else.  Like i said before….what PRESSURE!

SAKA Volleyball – So last night I’m watching women’s beach volleyball (Russia vs. Georgia) when a familiar name flashes on the screen….SAKA!  ”Whoa”, i’m thinking to myself….I think in my life I’ve only seen like 10 people with the last name Saka (and 8 of them are my family).  Oh yah, this black chick from Africa added me on Facebook and her last name is Saka too.  I guess she added me cuz our last name is so damn rare.  Apparently our last name is IRANIAN (according to my brother).  But he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed so I think i’ll throw out that theory.

Saka Volleyball

Anyway so this chick Christine Saka Santanna is a volleyball player from Brazil who was imported by Georgia to play for their national team.  It was just a trip seeing my last name on the scoreboard.  Probably the highlight of my week thus far (yah i’m vain).  All hail the SAKAS!

Swimming - Wow!  Swimming has been awesome!  So many world records have fallen (i think a combination of steroids and that slick swim suit that everybody is wearing).  Watching Michael Phelps chase the 8 gold medals has been GREAT to watch.  That dude is THE MAN.  I swear he is part FISH.  I bet he is hiding some gills somewhere on his body.  The highlight of the WHOLE games thus far was watching the men’s 4x100m relay.  Was that like the greatest race ever or what?  Wow!

Michael Phelps 4x100

What made it that much sweeter was how Alain Bernard CHOKED at the end when Lezak caught him.  Yes this frenchman (are you surprised) was talking shiet saying how they were going to SMASH the Americans in the race.  Talk about EATING your words.  He just gave ANOTHER in a long line of reasons why the world thinks French dudes are douchebags.  hehehehe.

So that’s it for now.  I can’t wait for Week 2.  Basketball finals and Track and Field!  Yah!
