Arnel Pineda New Lead Singer of Journey – J SAKA

2 June 2008 No Comment

Boy I got some SCANDAL pics from this past weekend.  Must’ve been a full moon or something cuz girls be gettin FREAK EEEEE.  Anyway, that’s for tomorrow’s entry.  So I’m cruising youtube the other day and i decide to look at clips of the band Journey.  Now a lot of you peeps might not know who Journey is cuz they are like a 70′s/80′s band but i’m a fan of that era so I like some of their songs.  You might know some of them:  Open Arms, Faithfully, Lights, Dont’ Stop Believin.  Ring a bell?  Anyway, they friggin ROCK.  So i’m looking at some live footage of them and I see this little filipino dude singing the songs.  And he sounds EXACTLY like the original singer (Steve Perry) except this dude’s voice is more powerful and richer than the original.  So i’m like “whoa” and think this dude is lip synching.  Nope…this dude is the real deal.  So turns out that the guitarist of Journey (Neal Schon) is poking around on Youtube one night and he comes across this guy Arnel Pineda hailing from the Phillipines singing cover songs of Journey.   Neal is BLOWN AWAY cuz this guy Arnel sounds just like the original singer Steve Perry.

So Neal emails Arnel via Youtube and asks him to fly out from the Phillipines to Northern California for an audition where Arnel lands the gig.  How crazy is that?  This is like that movie Rock Star with Mark Wahlberg.  This is like an ICONIC American rock band and now the lead singer is this little filipino dude halfway around the world.  hahaha.  So he goes from singing at this little cafe with about 30 people to this huge concert in Chile thousands of people.  What a rush!  And he KILLS it!

So yah i thought this was real cool since Journey is da bomb and also cuz this dude is Asian.  Now I might have to go hang out with all the 40 and 50 year old peeps and attend a Journey concert.  hahaha.  Check out this vid somebody made with the two singers doing the same song.  It’s friggin eerie.

And all this wouldn’t have been possible without the internet.  What an amazing world we live in no?  =)
