Life At Pinkberry

It’s Pearl! Scottie requested that I should write about my experience at Pinkberry®, so I figured this week would be a good week to do so because I have been doing corporate training all week. I have been working at Pinkberry® for over a year now and this is the second time I have to do corporate training. The training takes 3 days, and we actually spend one whole day talking about the company and store mottoes and inspirations. We spend another whole day learning how to work the register and greet people properly, and the last day we learn how to put together a perfect yogurt for our wonderful customers.

I think one of the most interesting things we learn within training is the mottoes we live by within each store. “S.W.I.R.L.” Smile, Welcome, Invite/Interact, Respect, and Lasting Impression, so if your Swirler (that’s what they call us) is not doing the S.W.I.R.L., they are not doing Pinkberry® right :D And that was only one of many ideas that the company came up with to each us, there is also different mottoes revolving around ideas like values, vision, mission, and connection.

It is weird to think that Pinkberry® actually hires people to come up with mottoes like that to motivate, inspire, and direct their employees on how to think. Can you imagine if GO PRO hires someone just to come up with mottoes too o.O

*Sorry about the boring and generic picture. Maybe something more exciting when our store is more settled down.

Go Pro Select is Hiring Crazy Sexy Cool Club Promoters

We’ve just released our promoter recruitment website today at: http://www.goproselect.com

It’s amazing to see this go from just an idea on paper into what it is today. The site was created and designed by our very own Go Pro Alex. It definitely captures what GO PRO is about. We are not just “promoters”. We are the LIFE OF THE PARTY. It’s evident by the parties we host and how we convey ourselves. I’m definitely proud to be part of GO PRO. They are my family and I don’t know what I would do without them.

Anyway, check out the Go Pro Select site and under the “Meet The Team” section, you can see pics of the other Go Pro team members shot by Joseph Yi. In addition, you can check out the promo video (I have a small cameo) produced by my good friend, Kwong, at the site as well or just check it out here. Enjoy!

Obama Sushi!

A couple days ago my mom sent me an e-mail with pictures of sushi that looked like Obama and I just had to share them:

How crazy is that!?

Now look at the whole platter:

Man is that chef talented. The sushi platter was made in Japan. Even the Japanese love him!

GO Pro Bear Mountain Snowboarding Trip

Bear Mountain Bikinis

A couple weekends ago, the GO Pro team took a trip up to Big Bear for our first ever winter snowboard retreat.  I had been looking forward to doing this for some time now and it was good to get away for the weekend and chill with the team.  Great bonding!

Anyway, I have never been snowboarding or skiing before (can you believe it?) so I was contemplating the whole week whether to try snowboarding for the first time.  I’ve seen many of my friends break arms, disclocate shoulders, bruised knees, etc so I was very wary of being a part of this.  This is coupled with the fact that I have done practically zero physical activity in the past 5 years so I was sure to be very sore the next day.

Alas when we finally arrived, I was peer pressured into trying snowboarding.  Luckily, I wasn’t the only one as Andy, Scottie, Violet, and Howie had never been snowboarding before and Q and Sandra were beginners.  So off we were to the Bear Mountain slopes.

I had not seen snow in probably 10 years so just being up there was fun enough for me.  When we arrived, we rented snowboards and boots and purchased our lift ticket.  It all ended up to be around $100.  Good lawd this is an expensive sport!  99 cent Jumbo Jacks were in store for me the next week.

After some brief instruction from Kase, we were off in the lift up to the bunny slopes.  Is it just me or is anybody afraid of falling out of the lift chair?  I mean there is no restraint keeping you from falling out unless you bring that bar down and I didn’t see many people doing that (except for my scaredy cat ass).  When we finally made it to the top, Sandra promptly fell in front of me which caused me to eat it.  That was the first fall of many that day.

Kase taught us the “falling leaf” method but I found this very boring and tedious so proceeded to take off down the hill and just learn on the fly.  Not too hard except I couldn’t really steer that well and almost ended up crashing into the fences multiple times.  It was very frustrating but fun at the same time!  It’s kind of embarassing when you see all these little kids and chicks whizzing gracefully by while you are wobbling around like a drunk idiot.

Well, four times down the bunny slopes was good enough for me.  I packed it in for the day and joined Andy, Violet, and Sandra down at the benches for some overpriced bread bowl clam chowder.  Yay!  All in all a pretty successful first time.  Check out the video that Kase shot of our first “lift off”.  Hah!

For all you noobs, I also did some research when I got back home and here’s the 3 places to snowboard in the Los Angeles area:

1)  Bear Mountain (www.bearmountain.com):  According to opinions of more seasoned snowboarders, this is the best ski/snowboard place to go in Southern California.  Peak weekends and holidays will run you $66 for a lift ticket and snowboard/boot rental is $30.  The staff is REALLY friendly and I was really impressed how genuinely helpful and nice everybody was.  You can tell the people who work there really love their job and being up in the mountains.

2) Snow Summit (www.snowsummit.com) – Also in Big Bear, this is apparently better than Bear Mountain if you’re a beginner.  Bear Mountain has the label for hardcores while Snow Summit is for the families and beginners.  Rates are the same as Bear Mountain and the lift ticket gets you access to BOTH Snow Summit and Bear Mountain.

3)  Mt. High (www.mthigh.com) – Located close by in the San Gabriel mountains, I heard this places gets REALLY crowded.  It is at a lower elevation than Bear Mountain/Snow Summit so the snow isn’t as good but it’s CHEAP!  During peak weekends and holidays it’s $64 for a lift ticket and snowboard/boot rental is $30 but the best deal is on Wednesdays where it’s 2 for 1 ($27/person).  What a deal for all you peeps who got laid off.  Rejoice!  I might definitely try this deal out next year.

All in all this is ANOTHER reason why LA is the best place to live in the US.  The beach is less than 30 minutes away and the snow is less than 2 hours away.  Who can beat that?

Street Figher 4 Final Round! Fight!

Pearl here! It’s been a super long weekend, but hopefully everyone had a lot of fun! I am not very excited about this coming week because it’s finals for UCI, and I am working everyday within the week including Saturday and Sunday :( But, I am excited about next Thursday when I get to go over to my friend’s place to play Street Fighter IV on the PS3. I have been hearing a lot of good reviews about the game, but I don’t have a 360 or a PS3, so I haven’t got the chance to play it.

The graphic looks amazing with new characters and new bosses! What else could you ask for? :D Well,  I can’t wait until Thursday and time to go back to studying. Ask me about it when you see me at the clubs! Byi byi <3

Add me ^.^

Far East Movement – “Girls on the Dance Floor” Needs More Airplay!

Do you know which jam gets me pumped up every time I hear it in the clubs? No, it’s not Lady Gaga’s “JUST DANCE” or Akon’s “BEAUTIFUL”. It’s always FM’s “GIRLS ON THE DANCE FLOOR”!

This has got to be the best single FM has ever released since they first debuted in 2006. Sure, I enjoyed their other singles such as “ROUND ROUND”, “YOU’VE GOT A FRIEND”, and “LOWRIDIN’”, but “GIRLS ON THE DANCE FLOOR” is hands down the best club hit out right now.

If you don’t know who FM is, they are known as “The Far-east Movement” consisting of Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Splif, and DJ Virman.

I’ve had the pleasure to meet the guys at their website release party hosted at Cabana Club a year ago. I have to say they are the most down to earth and hard working dudes in the industry. Their music shows for it and their humongous fan base is evident.

That’s why we need to help them out so they can get their latest single “GIRLS ON THE DANCE FLOOR” out there with more radio airplay as well as promotions. After all, it’s not everyday that Asian American artists are on the radio and when they are, we should give them our support and be part of the “movement”.

Currently, they are being played on POWER 106 and have been featured on the “Top 7 @ 7″. Let’s get them to #1 by voting at: http://www.power106.fm/countdown/7at7.aspx

Three fingers up, y’all. Girls on the dance floor!

Be sure to check out their website: http://www.fareastmovement.com

Los Angeles JYP CONCERT – performances by JYP, Wonder Girls, 2PM, G-Soul, and J. Lim

Sorry for the late post about our AWESOME experience at the JYP Concert.

My roommate and I are big Korean music fanatics. Last November, my roommate was searching the net for his favorite girl group, Wonder Girls, and saw that they will be performing in Los Angeles. He got so excited, he started to send a bunch of texts to his friends to go with him. He knew I wouldn’t say no, and he was right. We purchased our ticket, and have been waiting impatiently for it to come.

The day finally came last week, and the show started off with G Soul and J Lim. G Soul I thought was way too skinny, but really good. I was not expecting him to sound like that. J Lim sounded good, but she needed a better song to really grab our attention with her. She did not leave a great impression with me.

Here come Wonder Girls next and they were AWESOME. They performed songs from all their albums, including “Tell Me”, “Irony”, and “Nobody”. The transitions between each song was smooth, and they sounded great live. Sohee, who is not known for her singing, wasn’t too bad. She has definitely improved throughout the year.

Here is their performance of “Nobody” at the Wiltern.

The Wonder Girls took a break and out came 2PM. I am not too familiar with them because they are fairly new and do not have many songs out, but they are cuties. While I was watching the show, I was thinking, “why can’t there be cute guys like that in LA?” Here is a picture of the 7 guys and the song they are known for “10 out of 10″.

JYP ended the concert, and that man can sing. He sang some of his songs, as well as songs he wrote for other artist. He pulled one lucky girl onto the stage and tied her up. The bed rose up and he got onto it and sang to her. I wonder what her parents would have thought if they saw that. Here is a pic of him right before he got on the bed with her.

I am very glad I got to attend this concert and my respect for JYP and his artists has definately grown. I hope they continue to have Korean concerts in LA, and I will definately be attend as many as I can.

Next week on March 21, there will be the Victory Concert, another Korean concert, at the Nokia Theatre in Downtown LA, but I was not able to attend because I was not able to convince anyone to go since my friends aren’t familiar with the artists that will be there. If you do attend, please let me know how all the groups are live. My next Korean concert will be the Korean Music Festival in May, that I have been attending the last few years at the Hollywood Bowl. I always have a blast at that concert and you should definately join me.

Save me on Facebook, and we can chat about Koream Music…

Frozen Yogurt Craze

After the success of Pinkberry I’ve noticed that a lot of new frozen yogurt stands such as Red Mango, Yogurt Land, and Fruitti Yogo have been popping up trying to get into the competition. Yesterday was my first time trying Yogurt Land and I was hooked. I had 4 different flavors- strawberry, mango, strawberry banana, and green tea with 3 toppings- strawberries, mochi, and gummy bears. It was yummy and even though I was sick and ended up coughing the rest of the night it was totally worth it.

So being a new frozen yogurt fan and only trying a few spots such as pinkberry, yogurtland, and fruitti yogo I need some suggestions. Whats a good place to go to that has good frozen yogurt?

I’m not a Vegas virgin anymore

I went to Vegas for the first time with my girlfriends. I’m not kidding; it was my first time. It was such a  different experience with my girls in the fabulous Encore hotel. Encore is SO GORGEOUS. These rooms do not look like regular hotel rooms. They are so modern and so pretty. Our room had two queen size beds, a black and white cornered sofa that could fit two people very comfortably. The window side was just all glass. You can look out the window for a fantastic view from the 36th floor.

I think 7 girls dressed up to go out in Vegas was bomb. We went to XS, Wynn and Encore’s new club that extends out to the beautiful pool patio. XS was pretty awesome, there were hot gogo dancers. I don’t even remember how many bars there were, but tons of people were dancing. So many people offered us drinks and it was great! Gotta love being a girl in vegas.

I had to check out TAO since Scottie Rock of Go Productions LA hooked my friends and I up for VIP entrance for Saturday night. We got to TAO at 10. After getting the re-entry stamp, we jetted to LAVO at the Palazzo for an open bar. A promoter gave us VIP and Open bar access when we were eating lunch at the food court earlier. I think we downed 5 drinks in 30-40 minutes, also got offered free patrone shots by these very nice fellows. Those drinks definitely lasted for a good time. After the open bar, we stumbled back to TAO. IT WAS FUN! Some time during the night I lost my Coach wristlet. It had my ID, credit card, business cards I got, and chapstick. I was so mad and sad! HOWEVER, I was so lucky because when I called the TAO security at 10am, they HAD IT!!! with everything in it! Nothing was missing. MAN, was I glad. I was thinking if this was in LA, my wristlet would’ve been gone for good.
Vegas
Anyways, the weekend was an adventure for me. All of us came back to our rooms between 6-8am both nights. Crazy. The MORE amazing thing is that including food, gas, and the hotel room, I spent UNDER $100!! Again, gotta love being a girl in VEGAS!

On a side note, I’ve gotten to know so many people by being a Go Productions LA promoter. The networking is really great. I’ve made lots of connection, and although this was my first time in Vegas I definitely knew where to go and got hooked up to amazing clubs! If you’re ever thinking of making networks, connections, and friends, be a GoPro promoter! :]
