NBA Draft Day is here! I’ve been following this one closely because it features 3 potential draftees who are UCLA Bruins. TWO are supposed to be lottery picks (K Love and Russell Westbrook) and the last guy is supposed to go somewhere in the 2nd round (Luuuuuuuc)
Kevin Love – Ah the big man. He looks like Linus Kleiza’s (Denver Nuggets) twin but this dude got SKILLS. We had been eagerly awaiting the Gatorade HS National Player of the Year’s arrival in Westwood for the longest time and once he got here, he did not disappoint. It was great for the team to actually have a big man with offensive skills and his outlet passes were a beautiful thing to watch. I wish he coulda stayed at UCLA at least one more year (he left after his freshman year) but I guess when you are a sure fire lottery pick and guaranteed millions…you just gotta do it and leave.

Russell Westbrook – My FAVORITE player on the team since the day he signed his LOI to be a Bruin. I call him the “assassin” cuz this dude is a coooold blooded killer. He plays with such intensity and force that it’s hard not to like him. Originally he was going to attend UC Santa Barbara until coach Ben Howland lured him away at the last minute. Thank the lord he did because this guy has WAY too much talent to be playing at a lower D1 school like UCSB.
Although being a late signee with the Bruins, he has improved so much that he’s projected as a LOTTERY pick ahead of even Kevin Love. I can’t imagine what life like must be for this guy. Going from a lightly recruited high school player to a lottery pick in the NBA draft 3 years later. Crazy! Check out this SICK dunk he had against the Cal Bears:
Luc Richard Mbah a Mouté - Luuuuuuuuuuuc. This guy is a rebounding machine and a terror on the defensive end. I don’t agree with him leaving and think he should have stayed for his senior year but I wish him luck. They project him to go somewhere in the 2nd round of the draft so hopefully he either gets drafted or catches on with a team through free agency.
Let’s not forget all the non Bruins: Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, Brook Lopez (stud), Joe Alexander (speaks fluent Mandarin), and Jerryd Bayless. Good luck to everybody. Should be an exciting draft!

Last weekend. Started off hectic but ended pretty nice. Friday I received a call from Scottie around 3pm saying that Cabana had been closed by the city for the night due to some maintenance issues so we had to move the party quick style. “Fockkkkkkk”, i’m thinking to myself. Was hot as hell that day and I knew a balmy Friday night would have led to a PACKED Cabana Club that night. But that was not meant to be i guess. Had to head back to my apt to start working the phones and email to get the word out of the change of venue. Through the power of Facebook, Myspace, texts, calls, and having Q physically stand at Cabana with a sign telling people to go to Element Hollywood (http://www.elementhollywood.com), we pulled off the last minute save. So let me tell you about Element. Well first off props and thanks to Mindsex Entertainment for letting us hop on board with them last minute. Mighty grateful for their hospitality. Party was ROCKIN. 1,100+ at a club that probably could fit 700 comfortably. Only bad thing was that it was friggin HOT in the club. Like ASIA summertime hot AND humid. I felt like i was in that Nelly “Hot in Here” video except for everybody being Asian and Nelly not being there. hahahaha. Sweat drippin down all over the body. =) SEXY! Even the patio was hot (not to mention the cloud of cigarette smoke hanging over it) So yeah….there was no real relief from the heat.
Finally got to see Steph (aka Mean Face) and Michelle (aka Sloth). Hadn’t seen both for quite a long time so was good to catch up. The surprise of the night was seeing Steph actually SMILING in all of our pictures. WOW. hahaha.
Also ran into Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne from Dumb and Dumber.
Actually their real names are Steven (from GO Productions) and Mickey (from Whisper Entertainment). These two bozos crack me up especially when they are together creating havoc. Make sure to say wassup to them next time you see em out and about. They will surely entertain you (especially if you are hotties)
We also saw RANDY (from Kiramas) for the first time in awhile after his leg surgery.
Now THAT Is dedication my friends. Randy gets my nod for 2008 Hard Core Clubber of the Year.
While walking to the car after the club, we ran into this chick with the “BOOTS WITH THE FURRRR” so being the camera slut that i am, i just had to snap a pic with her.
Headed out to WON KOK in Downtown for some late night grub with the boys (i’ll write a review on won kok someday) and didn’t get to sleep till around 5am. I REALLY wanted to go swimming at Chris’ pad after eating but was too damn tired.
Woke up around noon on Saturday and it was HOT. Immediately started calling around to see who was down to hit up Manhattan Beach but everyone was being lazy asses so had to switch to plan B: POOL PARTY! I call up Wej Scott (he’s the only one with a pool around here) and tell him that I’m heading over to his pad in Brentwood with Warren. Ended up picking up Mike Chu on the way. So we’re lounging at the pool and lo and behold, Scottie and Andy show up. ”Great”, i think to myself….”6 DUDES”…”YAY!”. Right then Steve calls me and tells me he’s coming by and he brings along PJ and before you know it, you have an Express order of Asian MAN SOUP. hahahhaa.
And before you ask….YES, it is as geigh as it looks…..especially when you have two guys doing stuff like this:
Hahahaha. But yah, regardless it was fun just talking shiet and messing around in the water. I was just happy to be out of the heat. Things got lively once Steve and PJ brought a 24 pack of Bud Light. All the other residents of the complex lounging at the pool with us started drinking the Bud as well and I ended up feeling like i was in one of those cheesy beer commercials.
So anyway, we stayed at the pool till around 6 and then went home to chill for a bit. PJ, Steve, Warren, and I decided to do dinner at Tahoe Galbi (http://www.yelp.com/biz/tahoe-bbq-los-angeles) in Ktown for some all you can eat MEATS.
Got home around 10:30 and i was pretty full and TIRED so decided to just stay in and chill. Yes i know….the HORROR of staying in on a Saturday night (especially for me). Disney’s Pearl Harbor has been sitting on my DVD shelf for a good 5 years so I finally decided to watch it.
Hmmmm. Decent movie. Here’s my mini review on Pearl Harbor: I like the action (Bruckheimer and Bay); Kate Beckinsale is a hottie; Josh Hartnett is F*CKED UP for boning his BEST FRIEND’S chick (you should be shot for doing shit like that); Cuba Gooding is funny as the deprived black man; and lastly i thought the image of Hawaii was grossly misrepresented. Hawaii was like 80% Japanese American yet you had the planes flying over baseball games with all white kids and a white woman doing her laundry? hahahaha. I thought that was hilarious. I guess it WOULD be kinda weird if it showed the Japanese Americans with the Japanese planes flying overhead to attack white people. Yah anyway, I enjoyed the movie.
Sunday Cyn and I decided to hit up LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). Well first we hit up Nyala restaurant for some Ethiopian food (my first time) but i’ll write a review of that restaurant on another post (since this one is getting so friggin long anyway). So yah, on to the musuem. It was my first time there. I’m actually kinda bummed that I hadn’t gone sooner cuz it was pretty cool. They have this temporary exhibit on 17th century Japanese art (http://www.lacma.org) so that was really interesting for me. I learned that Japanese artists back then REALLY liked cranes, tigers, birds, elephants, and cocks. That’s roosters for all you sickos. hahahaha. They had some other cool stuff there too. I think after 5:00pm it’s basically “pay what you want” for all you cheapasses out there so you can save on admission fees.
Here’s me posing in a forest of lamp posts. Cool eh? =)
It was a nice way to wind down the weekend. Looking forward to this weekend. I hope it’s HOT!

Since Summer is now here, many of us will be travelling. Although I’m only planning on going to CABO this Summer, I have been to quite a few places in the past. I’ll be posting my travel journals online about once a week so you can get a first hand view of what to expect should you be travelling to a certain city. Our second installment features Shanghai, China:::
So Korea was a blast. Off to Shangheezy. I had never been to China before (except HK) so i was really excited for this part of the trip. I heard a lot of good things about Shanghai….the current “it” city of the world…building at an incredible pace….skyscrapers abound…hot tall women…etc etc. So we get there and take a taxi into the city. First thing that comes to mind….this place is f*cking DIRTY! So dirty in fact that I didnt’ even see the sun for the majority of my stay there cuz the SOOT in the air blotted out any clear skies.

All the buildings that i saw also had this black grime on it. Friggin disgusted me especially since i realized that we were all breathing this dirty air. Ok so besides the dirty air, the other thing that struck me was the sheer number of skyscrapers and tall buildings in the city. Amazing!
Our hotel was a furnished apartment. Pretty pimp. After our spartan accomodations in Korea, the nice amenities of our Shanghai residence was a relief. First thing me and Van do is set off wandering around our hotel. The city is pretty chaotic and everybody looked at us like pieces of meat. Kind of like walking into a jungle where all the animals are eyeing you for a meal. Very unsettling.
First full day we took a tour of the “old city”. Went to eat at a dumpling place and saw Michelle Rodgriguez. Crazy! Anyway drank crab innards out of this dumpling. This was mistake #1. More on that later.

After lunch, we tour the “old city” more and what do we find?? A STARBUCKS. What a total sellout. Kinda disgusted me actually. I mean seriously…how tacky can you get?

Also had some little chicklets for a snack. No not the chiclets gum that those poor mexican kids sell you….i’m talking about actual baby chickens roasted on a stick. Mmmmmmmmmmmm!

Ok i didn’t eat them. I aint no barbarian! Shietttt! Did a little turtle riding.

So then after we are chilling on the steps and we are confronted by one of the MANY people selling fake shit. I mean it came to the point where there were about 10 of them following us down the road. I felt like a moviestar……probably the pinnacle of my life thus far. I’m famous! Wheeeeeee! LV Bag?? Fake Rolex watch? No thank you ma’am..i already have my fake on my wrist. hahahaha.

Stomach Issues
So like i said, i told you i would pay for drinking those crab innards. Hit me the next morning. Let’s just say i became intimately familiar with a LOT of toilets in Shanghai. I experienced some of the NASTIEST bathrooms i’ve ever seen. Squatters friggin SUCK and some bathrooms charge you to use the toilet…..is nothing sacred anymore!?!? Geezus. Then they give you like 2 sheets of “toilet paper” that look like those brown paper towels that we used to have in elementary school..except ROUGHER. Then they tell you not to put the “toilet paper” in the toilet but to put it in the wastebasket next to the toilet. So you’re sitting in the stall with this trashcan full of poopy “toilet paper”. I think i wanted to throw up right there. Probably caught some disease just sitting there in those janky toilets. Let’s just say the stomach problems totally took the life out of me for Shanghai. Didn’t feel like sightseeing…didn’t feel like meeting chicks….just felt like being near a CLEAN toilet. I felt like THIS most of the time:

Notice how Van is completely happy while i am hating life. hahahaha. Dirty ass China!
Clubbing
Even with my stomach problems, i still sucked it up and went out every night. It was either clubbing or ….. other activities that we did (that i cannot elaborate on)…hahahaha. But anyway….clubbing! Shanghai has a very vibrant clubbing/bar scene.
Barbarossa – Expat club in the middle of a lake. Plusses are: belly dancers, cool vibe, 4 floors, comfortable seating. Negs: Mosquitoes will bite you (cuz you’re in the middle of a lake), Drinks expensive. Here’s us at Barbarossa.

Notice how Shien is flashing the X sign. This is the sign Shanghainese girls give you when they are dissing you. Needless to say Shien saw a lot of that on the trip. Tee hee!
Volar – More of a “ABC” joint. Smaller club but really nicely decorated. 2 Levels. Amanda introduced us to the manager and owner so we got some small hookups and partied with them. Both were cool gals. =) Fav quote…”don’t hate cuz we’re rich”….uhhh…ok…hahahaha.
Bon Bon – “Locals” club. Jin was performing the night we went. Ended up getting a bottle of Chivas and Green Tea (my new favorite drink) for $50 bucks. What a deal! Ended up playing that stupid HAND game with Amanda, Jamie, and Angeline.

Bund – The Bund had a lot of cool bars: Attica, Glamour Bar, Rouge, etc. I would say the best one would be Rouge cuz of the awesome view and nice decor. Here’s we are at Attica with Debbie Deb (aka shiny happy people…aka mini tammy wan) hahahaha.

People
Ahhh.the people of Shanghai. Many were downright rude. It seemed like a lot of the workers were bored and knew nothing of customer service. Never smiled, never looked thankful….even my vaunted Saka charm could not melt the ice. Example:

Can she look any more MEAN? I mean I understand that she must be annoyed that 3 monkeys want to take a picture with her but at least be happy that we were 3 GOOD LOOKIN monkeys. hahahaha. At least crack a lil smile?
Also….saw a lot of peeps chillin with their shirts off. It would be ok if they were hot chicks but not sweaty fat guys. See how i snuck in this picture with this Buddha looking dude:

By the way I LOVE his capris. So hot!
And my favorite local? The knockoff Donald Duck. Yay!

Shopping
Shopping in Shanghai was FUN FUN FUN! Had some suits made for $50 each. Score! Also had some dress shirts custom made for $10 each…double score! Jerome also took us to the subway stores. Just a bunch of stores selling all kinds of shiet…clothes, jewelry, shoes, knick knacks, paintings.

My fav was bargaining with the owners. Here’s how it usually went down.
Me: How much?
Owner: 400 RMB!
Me: Nahh…too much….i’ll give you 100 RMB.
Owner: (Gasping)…You crazy? Ok…best price….250 RMB…Just for you!..C’mon you buy!
Me: Ehhh…nahh..that’s too expensive..it’s ok i’ll just look around more for a better deal.
Owner: Ok how much you want to pay? Tell me your best price!
Me: I already told you….100 RMB. I start to walk away.
Owner: You’ll NEVER get that price! Trust me! Ok ok…i’ll give you 200 RMB…final offer! Trust me you’ll never get it for 100 RMB!
Me: Nah it’s cool…continuing to walk down the hall.
Owner: (Yelling after me) Ok ok….175 RMB!
Me: (Ignore and continue walking)
Owner: (Yelling even louder) Ok ok…150 RMB…Final Offer!!!
Me: (Ignore and continue walking..but walking a little slower) By this time i am waaaaay down the hall.
Owner: (Screaming) OK OK!! Come back! 100 RMB!
Me: (Screaming back) OK! (Walk back to the store)
Owner: You know you killing me! I make nothing off this sale! I have to eat too! You a good negotiator!!
Me: Yah but i came back cuz i like you…you’re cute. (Flash toothy grin)
Owner: Ok ok…just take it and go! You make me lose money!
Ok so i’m sure whatever price they agree to that they give you a huge guilt trip on how they are getting ripped off. I just found it quite hilarious. Especially cuz it happened like 3 different times with that EXACT scenario and script.
Anyway that was Shanghai. I was sad to leave and had a pretty good time there (minus my f*cked up stomach).

Next stop….PHUKET, Thailand!

My homie just sent me this good clip for Project Michelle (www.projectmichelle.com).
It’s pretty cool how some of the more well known citizens of the Asian American community have stepped forward to do this spot (J-Splif – Far East Movement, Nicole Bilderback, Brian Yang, C.S. Lee, Parry Shen – Better Luck Tomorrow, Michelle Krusiec, Prohgress – Far East Movement, DC Wolfe, PK – Kollaboration, Kev Nish – Far East Movement, Steve Aoki – Dim Mak, Arden Cho, Danny Cho, Lanny Joon, Vivian Bang, Tamlyn Tomita – Karate Kid 2, Tim Chiou, Julia Nickson, and David Lee McInnis) Props to them!
<<A little info about Michelle from her website:
26-year old Michelle Maykin was originally diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a cancer of the blood, on February 27, 2007. After undergoing 5 rounds of chemotherapy, Michelle reached a state of remission and slowly began to reclaim her life. She also dedicated herself to helping others by creating Project Michelle, a campaign focused on recruiting people to become potential bone marrow donors.

In April of 2008, two months after returning to work, Michelle began to feel symptoms similar to those she had felt prior to her original diagnosis. Michelle’s fears became true on May 7, 2008 when her oncologist confirmed that she had relapsed. She was also blindsided by the results of an MRI that revealed a mass on her brain.
For Michelle to be cured of her leukemia, her treatment plan will include even more intensive chemotherapy, radiation, and a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, Michelle does not currently have a bone marrow match and will not be able to undergo a transplant without one. Michelle is determined to win her battle with leukemia, but she now needs the generosity of others to succeed.
Help Michelle fight this battle! She urgently needs your help. Please learn more about the process and register to be bone marrow donor. Your choice could save her life.>>
When I was at UCLA our fraternity (Lambda Phi Epsilon) did a lot of work with A3M (Asians For Miracle Marrow Matches). I think even one or two of us got matched up with a person in need. Must be a cool feeling to know that you directly saved somebody’s life no?
Anyway, if you’re interested in adding yourself to the donor registry, you can visit the following websites:
www.asianmarrow.org or www.projectmichelle.com
You just might save a life! =)

What’s ROCKING!?!?! Crazy and chaotic weekend to mark the coming of SUMMER! Talk about the HEATWAVE…which would have been perfect for Cabana Club…however, the club had to shut down for Friday night to make some venue improvements. So we had to push our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY to this coming Friday June 27th. We got COURVESOIR in the house introducing their new product Exclusifthat’s taken the east coast clubs by storm. They will be hosting a VIP Bar and the first 100 or so club goers will receive courtesy drink coupons and try out some delicious summer drinks mixed with EXCLUSIF. Some come out as we BLOW IT OUT!
Friday – Anyhow, so we moved the party at the last minute to ELEMENT and we teamed up with my boys Mark N. from Mindsex and Clubworks. Needless to say, the party was ROCKING! Unfortunately, we went beyond capacity and the place was HOT as HELL! It was impossible to move around at all! The patio looked like a mob of people swimming in a huge crowd of smoke. You didn’t need a cigarette…you can simply get your nicotine high from the second hand smoke. Check out the pics. on the gallery section. – www.GOProductionsLA.com
Saturday – I tried to cool down from the heat so I hit up the pool at Scott Chung’s place. Lounged there with my boys and shoot the shit about girls and bitches! LOL! So we’re thinking about making this a westside thing for the summer. Call it the westside backyard pool chill out! If anyone who lives on the westside that wants to get in on this…let me know: scott@goproductionsla.com Probably going to try to get my boy from Miller to sponsor it officially…the backyard pool get down! Beers, girls, water guns, and more beer…LOL; I also had to take a picture of Warren putting lotion on Mike Chu’s back. HAHAHHAHA! Look how happy Mike looks!

Later on that night, I hit up a house party thrown by my boy Mickey (promoter for whisper entertainment). I thought it would be cool going back to your roots college girls, djs, and booze. It was cool…but felt a little weird meeting girls who were barely 18…LOL; so we decided to bounce and go karoaking at WHITE in ktown. I had to get my singing on especially…since I was battling John Kim and Mike H. (promoters for whisper entertainment). Nothing like taking shots of Patron, eating don boki, and singing to N*SYNC…bye!bye!bye! Advice to all the fellas…if you want to sweep a girl off her feet…nothing like singing some R&B and letting her feel your vibe and groove. Sort of like letting her know that you got a lot to offer compared to the rest of guys out there. =) Make sure you go with your Korean peeps to get the full hook-up! So we sang our hearts out til 4 AM. http://www.yelp.com/biz/white-los-angeles

Sunday – Got up at 8 AM to go golfing with my boys at Alhambra Golf Course. http://www.alhambragolf.com/ Man, it was HOT! At one point the temperature climbed into the 90’s. I don’t think I drank as much gatorade and water in my life. However, I trudged on inspired by the recent Tiger Woods performance at the US Open Torrey Pines. One word – INSPIRATIONAL! It’s amazing how far passion and drive can take you in life. I had the chance to catch up with my buddies and sharing what business projects they’re working on. GOOD TIMES!
After golf, I headed back to the westside to have dinner at this new spot called ROCKSUGAR. It’s a new line of dining that the people from Cheesecake Factory is trying to launch. The decor of the place is pretty amazing. The cuisine was PAN ASIAN and the place reminded me of Las Vegas. 40 ft ceilings, giant Buddha statues, gold trimmings, and massive panels of wood. It was impressive. The food was moderately priced. However, being Asian…its hard to impress me with a new style of reinterpreting Asian dishes especially when the chef is non-Asian. When we went there was a line to get in and it was only in its third day of grand opening so it’s still working out the kinks. Make sure you make reservation in advance or because they don’t do walk-ups unless you sit at the patio. Overall, cool decor and food is alright. Worth checking out! =)

Nabe Shabu is situated on 2nd St in Little Tokyo. I walk by this place practically everyday and most times it is not that full.

I finally had a chance to meet the owner (Diana) a couple of weeks ago as she was passing out fliers outside of the restaurant. Now you all know how I LOVE Shabu House but i absolutely hate the wait. So last week me and Tom decided to go hit up Nabe. We rolled in around 9pm and were the only ones in the restaurant. Diana was working and greeted us warmly. Let me first start off by saying that Nabe is the NICEST shabu restaurant in Little Tokyo in terms of decor. The place looks very modern and classy. This is compared to Shabu House which has a neon Tom and Jerry wall decoration. hahaha.

We had the dinner special (which i think is $12). The lunch special is $8.50 (i think). The meat was prepared for us rather quickly and they gave us 3 sauces (ponzu, sesame, and i dunno the other one).

So i’ll give you the honest breakdown of this place:
PROS: Great atmosphere; family style or bar style shabu; good quality meat; lots of vegetables; 3 kinds of sauces (shabu house only has 2); decent pricing; little or no wait; friendly staff (and cute).
and now for the CONS:
** Not enough meat. Shabu house gives you more meat. Both restaurants are around the same price so i would expect the amount of meat to be the same as well. I left not feeling full.
** Sesame sauce. Sesame sauce is my FAV part of the meal so it is of the utmost importance that it be good. Shabu Hachi has the best sesame sauce that i’ve tasted so far with Shabu House coming in 2nd. I did not like the Nabe sesame sauce too much. It didn’t have that “taste” and was a bit salty for me.
The meal was topped off with my fav GREEN TEA ice cream. mmmmmmm.
I really hope this place makes it. I think with a good push in marketing, more meat, and a tweaking of the sesame sauce, Nabe Shabu can be a real winner. It definitely has the ambience and friendly staff to bring repeat customers.
After our meal I talked to Diana more and I get her to agree to give FREE Green Tea Ice Cream dessert to anybody who eats dinner there and mentions that “Justin from GO Productions” sent them. Make sure you ask for Diana though! So there you have it. Next time you’re in Little Tokyo for some shabu shabu, give Nabe a try and get some free ice cream. Can’t go wrong with that right? =)

Element pictures have now been posted in the GO Gallery. We had to move there last minute this past Friday because Cabana had maintenance issues. Luckily through the power of facebook, myspace, texts, emails, etc we got the word out in time. Anyhow, you can either click on the flier below or check it out at www.goproductionsla.com Yah!

So it’s the first OFFICIAL day of summer! The summer solstice! Yay…my FAVORITE season is FINALLY here! For y’all that didn’t know, the summer solstice is the LONGEST day of the year. In contrast, the first day of winter (winter solstice) is the SHORTEST day of the year while the first day of fall (autumnal equinox) and first day of spring (vernal equinox) are exactly EQUAL in day and night. Fascinating isn’t it? I learned that in Astro 3 at UCLA. =) Anyhoot, SUMMER IS HERE!

That’s my hometown right there. Summers in Huntington Beach are cherished. Me and my homies used to take the bus to the beach with our bodyboards and just spend all day in the water chillin and boarding. Good times! Hopefully this summer will find me doing a lot of bodyboardin, beach volleyball, beach bike ridin, and laying out. I can’t wait! =)

So damn what a fitting day for the first day of summer. it’s friggin HOT today! I need to find a pool to swim in ASAP. Tonight should be nice and balmy too. PERFECT weather for Cabana Club tonight! Yay yuhhhhhhh.
EDIT: Ok change of plans. There is a gas leak at Cabana tonight so they are closing it and we are moving to ELEMENT Hollywood for ONE NIGHT ONLY. Yay for new venues! See you there!
